Backlinks sometimes called ‘inbound links’ are critical to the visibility of your web pages in the search engines and attracting visitor traffic. When thinking about backlinks there are three elements you need to consider, the source from which the backlinks originate, the anchor text of the backlinks and what’s on the page to which the backlinks directs the visitor to.

The number of backlinks

The number of backlinks to a page is one of the elements the search engines take into account when deciding where to position the page in the results displayed to the searcher.

The origin of the backlinks

The source of a backlink can pass authority and indeed visitors to the page to which it points. So it follows that pages with backlinks from authoritative pages will receive better consideration from the search engines. Real examples of trusted sources of backlinks carrying higher authority are pages in education (.edu) and government (.gov) web sites..

Backlinks from web pages with high page rank (a value awarded by Google to any page that it considers over a period to have attracted, sustained and continued to accumulate relevant backlinks) pass some of their page rank via the backlink to the target page.

The ‘anchor text’

Just like a label, the backlink anchor text has influence over the search engines valuation of the backlink. If the content of the page is about ‘parenting’ and the backlink on the page is labeled or given the ‘anchor’ text ‘parenting’ then the search engines consider this to be of more value to the searcher looking for results related to ‘parenting’ than if the backlink was labeled ‘babycare’.

Common mistakes

A significant number of people screw up their backlinks strategies because they fixate on quantity as opposed to quality of backlinks. For instance if all of your backlinks to your ‘parenting’ page come from sites not related to ‘parenting’ then whilst you have backlinks they will almost always bring you the wrong visitors.

How to create backlinks

So let me tell you my fail safe process for getting backlinks that will make the search engines take notice of you and bring quality and relevant traffic to your web site.

  1. It is critical you select the right keywords before you expend any effort whatsoever.
  2. I like to build a keyword ‘cloud’.
  3. I most often start with a single ‘top’ level keyword or key phrase which has significant visitor traffic.
  4. The fastest and cheapest method to find out how much traffic a keyword or key phrase is getting is to use the Google keywords discovery tool.
  5. The Google tool builds a list of keywords connected to my main keyword and from this list I create my cloud.
  6. I then manufacture content in the form of articles and videos containing backlinks with the right ‘anchor text’ to my ‘money’ or ‘target’ page and distribute these to a wide range of content directories.
  7. My guiding principle is to author content that will attract visitors and persuade them to follow the backlinks to my money pages as well as send backlinks.

The unpaid method is through article creation . If you keep doing this, it will definitely make a good impact in your business. Make sure the content that you create add value to your target visitors.

* Pay-Per-Click

If you have the money to invest in your advertising, advertise through pay per click. Here you create an ad or ads relevant to your affiliate program, and place a bid on the keywords you select. You will need a lot of time and energy for research and monitoring if you do this manually and do not know the google secret loophole bonus materials. I would advise that you read your affiliate programs and pay per click rules before doing pay per click.

* Optimizing Your Website for Search Engines

Search Engine Optimization is basically the optimization of your web pages so that you can get a decent ranking by the search engines. You may have to outsource the optimization of your website as this may be time consuming.

Handling the Pages Linked From Your Article Syndication Content

In a recent article I wrote about the conflict we face in trying to resolve a contradiction in content marketing.  In a nutshell, the problem is that we frequently want to use links in our articles to our “money pages” for the purposes of SEO, but the readers are not yet at the purchasing stage in terms of their mindset as they are busy gathering information (the reason they found our syndicated article in the first place)..  I pointed out that this is compounded by the marketing commandment that any effective page should satisfy the major goal of our website visitor–at that time.

Simply bringing the problem to the attention of article marketers was my goal in that previous piece.  With this article, I’ll try to bring some resolution to the dilemma.

Two ways to solve the problem present themselves.  The first option is to ignore the rule of website design for marketing purposes and have our landing pages attempt to offer two different objectives allowing our readers to satisfy their information seeking and provinding an opportunity to buy the product or service from the same page.  Another solution to our dilemma is to include two different kinds of links from our distributed articles.  One of those link types leads to a landing page filled with valuable, additional content (and an opportunity to learn even more by signing up for our newsletter), while the other link category will direct the visitor to a product (or purchasing) page.  In these cases, our anchor text must make clear what to expect on the landing page.

When presented with these two options, I recommend the second.  I’ll explain why I believe that this approach is a workable solution, and then I’ll describe, in general terms, the landing page of each of those article links.

Recall that the readers of our syndicated article want to gather information.  If we want to entice them to click a link to actually come to our site, we must promise even more information that is pertient to them.  I trust that I don’t have to tell you that we always must deliver what we promise our prospects.  In order to encourage our readers to actually click our link, we must give them truly interesting and valuable information the first time, while simultaneously leaving them with the impression that there is still more to learn.  We must subtly persuade them that our site will provide all the remaining necessary information, and we make sure that link delivers them to a content page.

At the same time, within the syndicated article, we let our readers know that once they have gathered all the information they need to make a buying decision, they will find the product or service that will solve their problems right there on our site.  By including that information, we have an opportunity to link to one of our selling pages largely for the purpose of search engine optimization.

It is always easier to logically include both types of links within our articles if we syndicate directly to websites that are within our general niche category; in those cases we can make our links contextual within the article, itself.  However, if we limit our article distribution to article directories, we can still accomplish our task by cleverly using a well written resource box to provide the rationale for linking to both kinds of pages.

On our content landing page, we focus upon bringing our readers much closer to the buying decision end of the decision making continuum.  Remember that the visitors have already been persuaded to accept our initial offer by clicking on our link, so they are in an agreeable frame of mind.  They are no long “just readers,” they have become serious prospects.  We shall offer them a link to the page where they can actually buy, but we really put most of our efforts into getting them to give us contact information in exchange for a free buyers guide, a free report, or a free short course. 

In our syndicated article we use our content to sell our expertise.  What we sell on our linked (landing) page is our integrety, by establish our credibility.  Once we have their contact information we can begin selling our product, subtly at first and then with increasing urgency.

Remember that the other type of link takes the clicker (or the search engine robot) to our page where we directly sell our product or service.  Since the purpose of that link is primarily search engine optimization, it is especially important that our anchor (linking) text is at once an accurate description of the selling page and a useful long tail keyword with implicit commercial intent.

We have different roles as marketers and authors.  Wearing the marketing hat, our foremost goal is to make that sale, but as writers we worry about the flow of our prose even above its financial reward.  First we sell the article readers on their need for more information and convince them that they can find that information by clicking our link.  Then, with the second link type, we need to demonstrate to the search engine spiders that we have provided linking text that is a truthful name for the content that we have on our revenue producing page to which that link leads.  Thus our anchor text and the landing page content must be similar.

How To Get A Ton Of High PR Links To Your Website

If there's one thing all of us budding web gurus need… it's links and lots of 'em. Well, unless you know how to dominate Adwords that is. In that case you can no doubt shovel a ton of money into Google and come out even more well off.

But for us mere mortals we like the hustle and bustle of getting to the top of the organic search. After all, once you get there it’s free traffic forever. And that’s a beautiful thing. But to get to that point you need lotsa links directed at your own site. And it's all the better if the links are extremely relevant to your site. Google loves relevancy, but sometimes it’s a real bind trying to scrabble for links.

So how in the world do we get these links? Well… you can write articles sure, you can also beg webmasters to give you a link on their site but after a while this just gets extremely tiring. Isn't there an easier way to get decent links? So I mean… how hard can it be?

Increase Your SERPS With Linkvana

Now everyone understands that the the most essential element to receiving high rankings in the search engines is getting high quality links pointing at your web pages. Understanding that is the easy part. The hard part is how to get those good links back to your website.

I am not a believer in using just one method for getting backlinks, I like to use many strategies. But there’s no question that the linkvana tool is a good addition to my other link building strategies.

What is Linkvana? Quite simply, it’s a “blog network” where members can create blog entries to the network which includes a link back to their own site (links are only allowed to family friendly real “white hat” websites.) Each blog entry can only have one link.

This isn’t a blog network where one blog entry is posted to hundreds of blogs (which in my opinion makes that blog network way too obvious) but instead each blog entry is only posted once so there is never a duplicate content problem. Linkvana requires all blog entries to be entirely original hand written content. The entries only have to be a minimum of 100 words so it’s not too big of a deal. They also offer an writing service where they will have someone write your posts for you for only $2 per post.

One of the best things (and the first thing I noticed) about Linkvana is how good the user interface is. This is an extremely easy service to use. I only wish all of the services I use had such a user friendly interface.

The second thing I noticed is when I started to see backlinks showing up to my sites (I like to check in Yahoo Site Explorer) from my Linkvana posts is that they were coming from domains with a high PR (PR of 4 or 5 in most cases) and which were at least one year old.

If you are thinking about joining this blog network then I must recommend that you do it right now because they have a member limit of only 300 people. You definitely need to be one of the 300 members on the inside rather than one of the many thousands on the outside.
