If your website is not ranked well in Google, it is like you never put it up. The traffic volume dramatically lowers as your rank lowers. Being in the first 10 is important as mentioned in ppc bully.  If your site is not on the first few pages, it is unlikely that your web site will ever be seen - except by you and your friends!

Google takes into consideration many factors before listing your website in the top ten. But no one knows exactly how much weight Google attaches to each factor. Because of this, no one can guarantee your spot in Google.

You can get into the first page of Google if you follow basic search engine optimization principles and are prepared to work hard. Here are some factors that contribute to your search results:

* Your target keyword
* How many websites target the same keyword phrases
* The number of pages your website has
* Usage of keywords in your website
* How may incoming links you have

To get to the top ten of Google, first make sure that your website outshines the competition.   Add regular features, articles and special offers, give your visitors good reason to return to your site. Research, update and constantly improve.

Do keyword research and identify the keywords that you want to go for. Make sure to add these keywords in the website title and content of your website.  Do not over do this.  You can place related keywords to make it look natural.

Build lots of one way links to your website. Each links counts as a vote in your favour and is a key factor in search engine optimisation.

Although your SEO efforts are worthwhile if you have the time and energy for it, there are many things you can do to optimize your website if you can’t afford to pay an expert. Just remember that optimizing your site takes time and you are unlikely to see immediate results unless you have identified a keyword that has little effective competition.

I have been a web marketer for the last ten years; there have been many changes to the way people should go about promoting their websites in this time and it can prove to be a bit of nightmare trying to keep in touch with the latest web promotion changes. What worked only three years ago could now result in your site receiving a ban or penalty on the major search engines. Paid links and over-excessive reciprocal linking are seemingly a thing of the past. So as we move through 2009 what types of web promotion strategy should a webmaster be following?

I am not personally involved in this industry; I prefer to help people to stop stuttering and I also work within the fostering services UK sector.

Just one or two years ago you could gain a high ranking within a search engine like Google by simply buying a link on a page which had a high page rank. It did not even seem to matter if the site that was providing the link had anything to do with the site purchasing the link. We therefore saw online poker websites purchasing text link adverts on media and publishing websites which had a high page rank. Businesses grew out of this new niche market of selling backward links; it seeemed that this was a very easy way to make a lot of money.

But then the major power in the world of the search engines, Google, decided to move the goal posts by declaring war on this paid links market, stating that it was seriously distorting their search results. This upset a lot of people, this tends to happen when money is involved, with many accusing Google of acting as God. The reply from Google was short and to the point and went along the lines of; it is our search engine and we therefore decide our own guidelines; if you want to sell text links that is fine but it may result in some form of penalty as this goes against our current. They were basically saying you can do whatever you want with your website and at the same time we can do whatever we want with our search engine. Fair play, I say. I am actually very happy with the new guidelines; it was very hard to compete with webmasters who had deep pockets etc. Now the one-man band can compete with the big corporation; hard work, keeping up to date with the latest guidelines as well as learning from the SEO experts will once again prove to be very beneficial.

2009 brings about a new watch word in the world of web promotion; relevancy. What does this mean? Well quite simply the backward links that you attempt to obtain now need to be relevant to the site that you run for them to have a real benefit. Again this surely is common sense. If a website about gardening has a link pointing to a website about camping, is this offering any value to its site visitors? Not really.

2009 is also the year when those who are willing to work hard will finally get their rewards. Some of the old favourites such as article marketing are becoming more popular than ever but quality is now far more important than quantity. Only the best articles will be chosen to be published on other people’s websites and let’s face it they have enough articles to choose from.

Ensuring that your website is optimised correctly with the main keywords placed naturally within the text of the homepage will also be essential, be careful not to “keyword stuff” your homepage though.

OK, this is a big concept and I want to emphasise it’s not an exact science. But here is what I have learned in my analysis at the Backlinks clinic:

Authority - basics

The more authority your site has the better you will rank on Google. Authority means that searchers trust you and your content. The great news is that authorities trusted by humans are also trusted by Google. A good illustration is the .edu and .gov suffixes. These domains imply they are trustworthy sources of content and it’s an established fact that in the eyes of Google backlinks from these domains to your web pages will “pass on” authority to your web pages. Another shining example is Wikipedia as the web pages here are almost always added by by tribes of people as opposed to a single marketer.

So it follows that authority is significantly influenced by the source of your backlinks and if authoritative sites link to you then you inherit their apparent trust and in the eyes of Google you become more authoritative and hence the trust in your content by Google increases.

How Google pronounces what is and isn’t authoritative is undisclosed for good reason and aligns with Google’s thinking of “Do no evil”. The last thing the Internet needs is an individual or a group manipulating the mechanisms that Google employs in its efforts to try and regulate probably the most significant technological asset of our times.

How not to get Authority and Backlinks

And on this thought it’s worth my while stating some distasteful sources and methods of building backlinks that Google not only disapproves of but appears to be acting to ‘classify’ as negative authorities. In no particular order of severity, the common examples are:

• Paid backlinks – web sites where people buy and sell backlinks
• Comment spam – entries that contain links on web sites that are just not associated to the main theme.
• Low quality and *duplicate content – ‘scraped’ or copied
• Unnatural growth – there are a large selection of ways that this is achievable, Google isn’t stupid. Any sudden rise in the amount of backlinks is going to register on Google’s monitoring systems, especially if it’s a brand new domain.
• Backlinks from unscrupulous web pages – these are particularly destructive as you are guilty by association - need I say more.

*There is another factor where I may be on shakey ground, but reputable news portals appear to get a lot of authority and I have definitely discovered significant numbers of the same article over and over again on different portals with no penalties, I am still looking at this, only as a percentage of the results I am seeing go against the consistent behaviors I normally expect to see. Google Conquest, Conquest Authority.  Have you heard about either one of them?  I’m going to tell you something.  Google Conquest Authority- they are one.  Back in November 2008, Alex Goad launched a full online training with absolute automatic tools.  It’s name was Google Conquest, and in a matter of days, the course was sold out.  Now 6 months later, in May 2009, it’s counterpart is being launched- enter Conquest Authority.  Authority is the re-release of Google Conquest, and the anticipation for the launch has been outstanding.

Chances are you’ve seen the ads for the latest and greatest Internet Marketing software program that is suppose to help you make loads of money in short order. It seems more and more these offers can be found at every corner of the Internet. Or some marketing b.s. like that.

I’ve worked in the Internet Marketing field for nearly 9 years and in that time, I’ve seen all kinds of software that promised to help me make money fast. This is powerful for the Internet Marketer because it allows users to see what people are searching for, whether it’s a product, service or information.

The second tool is one that is the most important one in my opinion if you want to make money online. It’s the Keyword Research Tool from Google. Any Niche Marketer worth his computer knows how important this tool is. The Google Keyword Tool will show you how many times in the previous months a keyword or keyword phrase has been searched for. I use this tool to zero in on profitable niches. This is very important for those of you wanting to make money with Adsense.

Google’s Webmaster’s Tool. Whether you have a blog or traditional website, this tool will come in handy tracking your rankings. The Webmaster Tool will show you which keyword or keyword phrases you rank for and what percentage of traffic that each of the top 20 search terms for your website is getting. It also shows you how many backlinks your website has.

Google Analytics is another tool you’ll need a Google account for. Google Analytics simply analyses the traffic to your site. I could write a book about all the features and benefits that Google Analytics offers Webmasters. Analytics will tell you whether each visitor came from a website or search engine amoung other things. This information is critical when deciding on which keywords to optimize your website for or trying to decide which affiliate offers work and which ones don’t.

You don’t have to spend a fortune on tools to be successful with Internet Marketing. Google has given us Webmasters free tools to keep track of our online efforts. You can take the money you save and outsource some of those boring chores of Internet Marketing that you hate to do, like writing articles!

Just here recently, Adsense was the darling of the Internet Marketing World. Newbies jumped on board the Adsense bandwagon thinking they could make money fast and be holding up 100k checks like Shoemoney. Then, after a few weeks getting paid just pennies for their clicks, they then become discouraged and screamed to anyone who will listen that Adsense doesn’t work any longer.

Whether you want to believe it or not, there are many of us who are getting paid good cash with Adsense. Making money with Adsense requires a little more than just throwing up a blog, scraping content and adding your Adsense code. In a Nutshell, Adsense is still one of the easy ways to make money online. Try these Pro tips that will help increase your check from Google Adsense.

To begin with, take a long hard look at the site where you have Adsense. Is your site targeted to one niche? I find it really humurous sometimes when so called Internet Marketer say you can’t make any money with Adsense. I usually check out their site and see that it isn’t optimized for any keyword that advertisers would be bidding on. Or, what advertisers that are bidding are bidding a nickel per hit. The lack of a focused website is one of the biggest reasons Webmasters don’t make money with the Google Adsense program.

For Adsense to show your visitors the highest paying ads, your site has to be very targeted to a niche. For example, if you have articles on your site discussing everything from how green the grass is today to how sloppy your kids teacher dressed, Adsense isn’t going to give you the high paying keywords. What’s more, the ones you do get probably won’t be targeted to your audience because the Adsense bot is having an impossible time trying to figure out what your blog is about.

Okay, pay close attention here. Let’s say your website is about Chicken Wings. You have no articles on your site other than those about Chicken Wings. You have articles about Hot Wings, Barbecue Chicken Wings, Wing Sauce Recipes, How to cook Chicken Wings, etc. Now if you’ve done your on-page SEO properly, the Adsense bot will know that you site is all about Chicken Wings. If an advertiser is paying $2.00 per click to advertise their Chicken Wing product, your site will get that high paying ad. And what’s more, your visitors will likely click on that high paying ad because they are on your site looking for stuff pertaining to Chicken Wings when they see an add for something to do with Chicken Wings, which in turns gives you an excellent paying click.

Still yet, another humorous statemetn is when a noob says he’s getting a steady stream of traffic from Stumble Upon or Digg, but he isn’t getting any clicks? It’s no secret to most of us that Social Traffic doesnt convert. Traffic from Social Sites are just browsing the Internet while they should be working. They don’t click ads people!

Search Engine traffic is what drives Adsense clicks. If your website is niche focused and you have your site ranking well for its keywords, then when organic traffic from Google arrives, they’ll be clicking ads. They’re searching for information and they found it on your site. Your site has a bunch of Adsense ads about what they’re looking for. They want information and they want it now. They will click those ads!

Another trick is to have some vague or long drawn out post. If someone is looking for a recipe on Chicken Wings with Cheese Fritters and you have an article by the same name, they’ll be reading that article. But if that article is really long and boring and says very little about Chicken Wings with Cheese Fritters, they’ll get bored and start looking around your site. That’s when they’ll see an Adsense block with an ad for a sure fire, can’t miss Chicken Wing with Cheese Fritter recipe and click on it. Solving all the problems of your readers isn’t in your best interest, not if you want Adsense clicks!
