As you might have guessed exit splash is a software which grabs your exiting visitor who going to leave your website never to return again.  As always it’s great to get a second opportunity to make a first impression and maybe even convince your visitor to buy.

The exit splash software that exists essentially falls into two categories.

With an exit grabber, a hover window pops up with the user moves the mouse toward the top of the browser window; the user isn’t trapped because he can exit the hover window or type in the address field.

Exit lockers — those are the gray windows style pop ins or the little chat window which comes into lock you in place and you have to x out of them before you can leave the page.  As an Internet user and web browser obviously those that lock me onto the page can be a bit annoying especially when it’s an offer which doesn’t interest me.  It takes two extra steps to click on OK on the first page, then click OK again on the second page when I all I wanted to do was exit the first page.

On the other hand, as a website operator similar to Dave Guindon, I want a chance to dazzle the people visiting my website.  So the question is “how do I do this with out annoying them?”

Obviously I’ve alluded to this a bit earlier but you want to make sure the exit splash offer’s relevant and something users to your website are interested in.  I know some of the websites I visit do a good job and if they do an exceptional job I take notes see what I can apply to my own sites. With anything like this you must test now different offers and messages allowing your website visitors to tell you which ones are most relevant and those they like best.
